Before this, he split his career between scientific research, publishing a seminal text in the field of mammalian semiochemistry, and education. He is member of Council of the British Association and Chair of their Bristol and Bath Branch. He was recipient of the 1993 Royal Society of Chemistry Award and Medal for Chemical Education, and is a member of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group. He is married with two grown-up sons. |

Born in Bristol, Rod was a teacher / teacher-trainer, but has worked in education consultancy for twelve years. Embracing the five strands of the RSA's mission, Rod's main focus is skills development and collaboration between learning providers to enhance learning and participation in society. He has written/co-written over 30 publications on education, management and employability. He is an Honorary Lecturer at Swansea University, Chair of Governors of Olchfa Comprehensive School, a Council Member of BBC Wales and a Trustee of the global education network, i-earn UK. |

His career was in teaching and management and organisational posts in education, serving on governing bodies and as Chairman of Gloucestershire Education and many committees and sub-committees. He spent 20 years in local government representing his County on the ACC Education Committee, also the Cotswold District. An active Gold and Silversmith, he registered his "mark" at Birmingham in 1962 and in London in 1965, lecturing and teaching in Adult and Continuing Education. He is active in voluntary work locally. |

Biography: Jan's career began as a PA to the PRO of Wessex Water, set up as a result of local government reorganisation in 1974 in Bristol. From there she progressed to a seven year opportunity with World Snooker, looking after hospitality events at The Crucible for the World Championships and in Thailand for the Snooker World Cup in 1996. Jan joined Simon Fordham in 2002 at the RSA's Bristol Centre, based at UWE's Fishponds campus. In 2006 Jan was appointed Project Manager for the RSA Coffeehouse Challenge. As that very successful project came to an end in 2007,,the beginning of 2008 saw Jan appointed by successful Bristol businessman, John Pontin OBE FRSA. She is currently working on a number of community projects all tackling climate change in their own innovative ways at a local level. A keen singer, Jan has recently joined a Ladies Barbership Chorus. She has two grown up children, one son and one daughter. |

His experience combines a successful business career mainly in the private sector with leading roles in Local Government, including major interfaces with Central Government. He was awarded OBE in 2000 and knighthood in 2005; he is a fellow of the RSA and member of the South West Regional Council of The Arts Council for England. His experience includes, eight years as Leader of Somerset County Council, four years as Deputy Chairman of the Local Government Association four years as founder chairman and then vice chairman of the South West Regional Assembly. He has worked closely with Central government as member of the Central Local Partnership chaired by the Deputy Prime minister and lead for local government in the Prime minister's Crime Reduction Unit, Prolific Offender's board and Alcohol Fuelled Violence task group. His commercial work includes finance and marketing roles with The Rank Organisation, Clarks International where he devised, led and implemented a point of sale system for retailers and consultancy and advisory roles, during which he helped the establishment of more than 200 successful new business ventures. |

He has held roles with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the EU and the National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE), among others. He founded the Centre for Creative Arts at Bangor University and was Foundation Chair of the School of Creative Arts, Film and Media at the University of Portsmouth (2004-2006). Professor of Creative Writing at Bangor University - writing recently under his pseudonym Brooke Biaz - he is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Bedfordshire. He holds British-Australian citizenship. |

Represented the Metropolitan Police at Chess (Colours), also played Chess for Surrey; gave simultaneous charity display matches for The Lord's Taverners and in schools and colleges for the Police. He moved to West Wales in 1997 and became Treasurer of RSA Wales & West in 1998. He and his wife have a smallholding where they care for rescued farm animals. |
